Medi/September 2025- Gorffennaf/July 2026

Spring Term:

Croeso yn ol i’r ysgol! Welcome back to School! We hope you had a wonderful Christmas break and wish to welcome you all back to Dosbarth Bale. We have been busy getting everything ready for the start of the new term in January.

Our curriculum and skills:

This term our topic is “Circulate”, this is a Science & Technology based topic with links to Health and Wellbeing. Children will be learning about the different organs in the human body and how exercise can benefit our physical and mental health. Our bodies are amazing machines, and one of the most important systems that keeps us alive is the circulatory system. It works like a delivery service, carrying oxygen and nutrients to every part of the body and taking away waste products. At the heart of this system is the heart itself which is a strong, tireless muscle that pumps blood through a network of veins and arteries. We have lots of exciting events taking place this term including; British Science Week and Dydd Santes Dwynwen.

Literacy, language and communication

This term, children will explore a variety of writing genres, with a particular focus on narrative writing. They will create their own stories and use their imagination to consider what makes a story engaging and effective. Pupils will also begin to understand explanation writing and create a piece of writing about our topic ‘circulate’. Pupils will continue to develop their Welsh and French reading, writing and oracy skills.

Maths and numeracy

In Mathematics and Numeracy this term we will be looking at the following topics; multiplication, division, fractions, decimals and percentages and statistics. Pupils will continue to experience mathematics in real-life settings through application tasks, outdoor learning and champion challenges. Online interventions such as Mathletics and TT Rock Stars will continue this term as an additional strategy to support progression in this area of learning and experience.

Home learning:

Each week pupils will receive:

  • x1 spelling task
  • x1 LLC task (this could be English, Welsh or French)
  • x1 mathematics task (this could be on Mathletics or Times Table Rockstars)

Pupils need to return their home learning tasks on a Friday and new tasks will be given out on a Friday.

Once a term pupils will receive:

  • x1 Area of learning and experience (AOLE) grid with 6 tasks

Pupils need to return their AOLE grid tasks by the end of the half term.

You can help your child at home by:

  • Encouraging them to read books or watch documentaries about the circulatory system
  • Reading with them, asking questions about what they are reading
  • Engaging with their home learning tasks.

We look forward to an exciting term ahead!
